Information on Casper's remedy, an empirical anti-cancer remedy
Updated January 5, 2008 - contact info for post, notsohandy AT gmail  DOT com

Let me preface this information with the comment that I am not a university-trained veterinarian or (human) doctor, but I am a university graduate that was trained in engineering which is a scientific discipline. And, I have done considerable research for my own breast cancer and cat cancer because my cat was afflicted with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue in late May/early June, 2007..

I believe that this information has ramifications for me (had breast cancer twice) and any cat or human who has had or has cancer because the tenets that I used in creating my cat's empirical anti-cancer remedy, aka Casper's remedy, were logically put together from all the information that I researched on cancer - not my cat's specific disease, squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.

My cat, Casper Kitty, had a huge tumor under his tongue, and the vet had told  me that I had the option to either do chemo or he would be dead within a month. They had biopsied his tumor, and it had come back as squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue which is a rapidly growing tumor.  The vet told me that the tumor was too large to cut out because they would have to remove his whole tongue. In addition, radiation was out of the question because of the location, (in the mouth is too close to the brain), of the tumor. In most cases, long-term control of feline tongue tumors is rarely reported, and the cat deteriorates rapidly.

Since then, Casper's tumor has completely receded, and he is healthier than he has ever been. In addition, since posting Casper's remedy online at several different websites, (yahoo group's feline-cancer (here), squamous cell carcinoma geocities website, etc), the tumor recession results have been duplicated on another kitty.

So...Here goes -

Due to the information that I had compiled from doing my own research, i.e. downloading pubmeds & medical research studies, reading articles on NIH, cancer.gov, Hulda Clark's info, etc, etc, etc., I identified a protocol to use on my cat to fight the cancer without surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. It was based upon the following tenets:

1. Remove all toxins from my cat's environment - did this by changing the clumping clay litter to a non-toxic wheat based litter, using only non-toxic cleaning products, and switching from tap water to Poland Springs spring water.

2. Improve the function of his liver and kidneys which are the primary organs for removing toxins from the body - did this by giving him an herbal formula from petwellbeing.com called Immunity & Liver Support that contains milk thistle, dandelion root, echinacea, and Ashawaganda (Chinese Wisteria).

3. Detoxify his system - did this by giving him clay in a distilled water solution. Currently, I use Sonne's #7.

4. Increase his intestinal health and ability to absorb nutrients easily - did this by giving him an herbal formula, Vitality Science's Herbal Anti-Inflammatory which is a tincture containing Yucca, Venus Fly Trap, and Licorice, Feline Comfort from Vitality Science which is a powder containing L-Glutamine, slippery elm, soil-based probiotics, arabinogalactan, serrapeptase analogue, pet enzymes, among other ingredients, and added Super Pet Enzymes from Vitality Science

5. Minimize and remove as much as possible any inflammation in his system - did this by giving him CoQ10 an herbal formula from petwellbeing.com, NHV ES-Clear which is a tincture containing burdock, sheep sorrel, slippery elm, and Turkey Rhubarb, and another herbal forumula from petwellbeing.com, C-Caps which is a capsule containing Astragalus, European mistletoe, echinacea, cat's claw, milk thistle, and Ashawaganda (Chinese Wisteria)

6. Changed his diet to a high-quality no carbohydrate food because cancer is fueled by sugar (and therefore, carbohydrates) - for the first few months, I used Innova Evo Cat & Kitten food (with no grains whatsoever).

7. Supplemented his diet with vitamins - added vitamins to his diet - in his case, Feline Food Supplement from vitalityscience.com

8. Minimize viruses and parasites that might have taken residence in his body - added food-grade diatomaceous earth (for parasites) and olive leaf extract (for viruses),

9. Added in aloe vera juice because I saw that there was some research that had indicated it had anti-cancer properties, and lastly

10. Added nutritional yeast to his diet because there was some research that indicated that some cats are unable to absorb protein due to a lack of the vitamine B-6, and there is a high B-6 cotent in nutritional yeast. I used non-gmo healthy yeast grown on molasses, had NO added wheat, corn, milk, egg, soy, glutens, sucrose, animal derivatives, artificial colors, starches, or preservatives, and is candida albicans FREE.

My cat, Casper Kitty was diagnosed back in late May/early June. Since then, his tumor has completely receded, and I posted the protocol, dubbed Casper's remedy online for other cat owners. Also, my cat is still on the maintenance remedy (added twice per day to his food) that I use which is as follows:

1. Remove all toxins from my cat's environment - This continues

2. Improve the function of his liver and kidneys which are the primary organs for removing toxins from the body - This continues

3. Detoxify his system - This continues

4. Increase his intestinal health and ability to absorb nutrients easily - This continues in the form of elixa.com's soil-based probiotics only.

5. Minimize and remove as much as possible any inflammation in his system - This continues in the form of the CoQ10, and the herbal formula from petwellbeing.com, NHV ES-Clear.

6. Changed his diet to a high-quality no carbohydrate food because cancer is fueled by sugar (and therefore, carbohydrates) - This continues in the form of Wysong Archetype diet (a freeze-dried raw food which I add to it the Poland Springs water & all the supplements itemized in this maintenance remedy)

7. Supplemented his diet with vitamins - This continues only once per day.

8. Added nutritional yeast to his diet - This continues.

The wonderful thing is - it's been reproduced in another cat! The other owner, Penny had a cat, Fluffy, that was diagnosed with SCC on her teeth & into the roof of the cat's mouth as well as another SCC site on the cat's lip. Penny's vet had done an initial surgery to remove the growth in Fluffy's mouth, but had not cleared the margins for fear of intruding into Fluffy's sinus cavity. The vet did not hold out much hope for Fluffy in the long term because squamous cell carcinoma is well-known as growing back after surgery very aggressively. That was when Penny, Fluffy's owner went online looking for a solution. She found Casper's remedy, and contacted me.

The remedy is not easy to follow because it involves mixing up all the items in the cat's food twice per day, and syringing the mixture to the cat which is no easy feat. Penny changed the method of syringing it by mixing the ingredients into a water solution, and syringing it to her cat (instead of adding it to Fluffy's food as I had done with Casper). In addition, she added one ingredient per 3 day period in order to identify if her cat was allergic to any specific ingredient which was genius on her and her vet's part! :) In addition, she fed her cat only cooked chicken, chicken broth, tuna, and some type of cat's milk instead of feeding her cat the Innova Evo Cat & Kitten food that I used.

Recently - 2 days ago, Penny went back to her vet to have her cat checked. Penny did not sleep very well for the 2 nights preceding the vet appointment because although her cat seemed to be doing fine, i.e. playing, grooming, eating, and looking the picture of health, she was afraid that the vet would find that the cancer had spread. Instead, the vet was completely floored, and told Penny that the cancer had receded completely on the facial tumor and that the mouth tumor had receded to an extremely small dot in Fluffy's mouth. She told Penny that she needed to continue giving Fluffy whatever was producing this effect on the cancer.

NOTE: There have been other cats that were treated with Casper's remedy unsuccessfully, but the people giving it to the cats either started after the cat was too far gone & unable to get the formula into the cat, changed the formula or products (did not use all the items, used some of the items, or different products, i.e. potency issues), did not have the fortitude to implement the remedy, i.e. mixing the remedy up at each feeding & syringing it is very, very challenging, and in one other case, the cat died from getting hit by a car.

In any case, that's my story, and I do believe that it is relevant to people and animals with any cancer. In the case of people with cancer, the tenets that would follow would be to remove all toxins from the environment, minimize parasites and viruses (loading down the immune system), remove all simple sugars & dairy from the diet & increase high-quality food, add supplements & herbs to diet as outlined in the remedy, increase the health of the liver & kidneys through herbs, detoxify the system with clay i solution, and increase the bodies ability to absorb nutrients by making the intestines healthy - i.e. soil-based probiotics, regular probiotics.

Nice...if you can afford it. Finally boiling down to costs on my cat.

I'm already spending hundreds a month. To add this, I'd have to cut back on the painkillers, which I deem inhumane to take pain control away from her.

Why does it always seem, it's money or your life, or your loved ones' lives!?weirdface.gif

Thank you so much for this information.  My cat, Ali, she is 10 and was recently diagnosed with mast cell tumors.  She had a mass removed from her gastrointestinal tract and started vinblastine iv chemotherapy which she did not tolerate at all.  She vomited for 6 days, wouldn't eat, and we basically thought she was not going to live.  The vet gave her some steroids and a strong anti-nausea medication.  She stopped vomiting and started eating again.  My friend was doing some research for me and came across Vitality Science website.  She spoke with the owner, Stephen, and he recommended the Pet Flora.

We decided we were not going to subject her to anymore iv chemo treatments, but the vet oncologist suggested a chemo treatment in the form of a pill, CCNU.  She has had her first treatment and I am happy to report no vomiting.  I truly believe the Pet Flora is helping her.  She is also on Transfer Factor and I cannot believe the difference that has made.  If you didn't know she had cancer, you wouldn't think anything was wrong with her.

I appreciate all the information you have written down, and I am going to start incorporating them into Ali's diet.  As much as I can.  She is very finicky, and it is almost impossible to syringe feed her.  She is very smart, and can smell and taste anything different in her food and then she won't eat.

Thanks again and good luck!

Dawn passed away from cancer earlier this year, her Holistic approach failed her, sadly.

As with all cancer, there is a 20% chance of spontaneous remission; there are no facts to back up that 'cancer is fed by sugar', anywhere. I spoke with top Vets at the vet colleges, it's all speculation - even with human doctors.

What I came up with for Tara, was highly nutritional, like you are supposed to do for all cancer patients. I am an 18 year cancer survivor myself, and will say, I have little faith in Holistic Medicine. If it worked, there wouldn't be modern medicines, now would there? No need for them - but yet, there is. I personally know one scientist for one of the drug manufacturers, and his wish is to help people, not harm them.

If something is going to WORK - it matters not whether I believe in it, or not! It just DOES. NOt that Holistic medicine can hurt in some instances, but with certain meds, there can be issues with the natural stuff blocking the absorption of the medications needed.

I believe in PROPER Nutrition, and low carbs, only because I have Reactive Hypoglycemia - separate from cancer. That would make me basically a Pre-Diabetic.

What I did for me and my cat, was high nutrition, vitamins, anti-inflammatories where called for, such as Metacam for her, painkillers, since animal or human bodies were NOT meant to be in constant pain (only now are they making headway into Chronic Pain, past acute pain). I built her system back up, as long as she & I could. But her constant bleeding, caused her to lose too many blood platelets, which brought her down.

There is never a 'right' or 'wrong' way of treating cancer, perhaps, except to do NOTHING. And yet I see people spending more money on their pets these days, often times, more than they'd spend on themselves!

DO: Take care of YOURSELF. Eat well, stay away from comfort foods on a daily basis, as those can kill you, by clogging your arteries, eventually. Exercise, more than walking. Even my cat exercised when she wasn't feeling down - the day she passed away, she was a riot, up until she was bleeding out, she was herself!!

Do what you can with this disease - whether animal or human, getting them to eat is the hardest hurdle - because with this disease, they don't want to. My kitty lived nearly 4 months after official diagnosis, but I had a bad feeling back in January, when she had two Neurological episodes, that something was wrong then...we did our best, and without Chemo or Radiation, as that seems to only buy 3 months tops - we had nearly 8 months in total, from when I had the bad feeling, and told my BF, I was afraid we were going to lose her.

Listen to your instincts. Also, listen to your cat - I let ours guide what we did. The only thing we never listened to her on, was hand-feeding her twice a day, which was Wellness cat food, and her favorite flavors. We'd get half a can down her, twice a day.

Don't be too hard on yourselves...the most expensive thing for us, btw, was the Bupronex; it's a controlled substance, and a wonderful Cancer clinic worked with us on helping to aid us in getting her a month's supply at a time, instead of $13 a syringe. She was happy & comfortable, while on it, and slept with us EVERY NIGHT, even her last night.

Dear Julie S.,

You wrote that Dawn, the creator of the Empirical anti-cancer remedy, had passed away this earlier year.  I presume you have this knowledge because you were a close friend of hers.  If that is true, I am wondering if you know anything about what happened to her cat, Casper.

Their story touched me deeply, particularly due to Dawn's admirable persistence and faith in healing her beloved pet.  My 14-year-old kitty was also recently diagnosed with cancer, and I was thinking of trying Dawn's protocol to help her.  I read Dawn's story on another feline cancer webpage and felt optimistic that there is hope out there.  Later, I found your post on this message board and it saddened me profoundly that such a strong and inspiration fighter had finally lost her battle with cancer.

If you have any infomation at all, please let me know how Casper is doing.

Thank you,
Maria

Julie,
I tried Dawn's remedy on my cat, Fluffy. She lived 8 good months thanks to Dawn. If not for the treatment, she would have died within a few days.  Casper, was put down when Dawn died.  She was not able to continue his treatment and his cancer also returned.  Dawn was a gutsy woman with the biggest heart!! She is surely at the rainbow bridge.
I hope you kitty does well.

Hello everyone,

My 16 yr old (17 in June) cat, and best friend, Ralphie has SCC. My last cat, Blackie, survived thyroid cancer, and lived to be 3 months shy of 19 when he went into kidney failure. My vet proudly states that Ralphie's labs look like a 2 year old cat. He has been receiving treatment for high blood pressure for the past 3 years, but was otherwise healthy. His heart rate always was high (150-180), but in November 2011 it was 200+ and he had a heart murmur. The atenolol has corrected both of those problems.

It all started in Dec 2011 when noticed he had trouble eating dry food. He kept dropping the food. He would do the same with cat treats. It got to the point where he didn't even attempt to eat the cat treats. I took him to the vet and she pointed out a large tumor on the bottom of his tongue. The biopsy results later confirmed that it was Squamous cell carcinoma. I already had depression/anxiety dealing with a injury that prevents me from working, and I nearly dropped  to the floor when I heard the news. After a day or two the initial shock wore off and I started researching. I was so thankful to find Dawn's treatment regime and grateful to Dan for keeping this page alive!

My vet estimated he had no more than 6 months, and said only 20% survive a year after diagnosis. After reading many of the stories on this website, I feared he may not make it 3 months. She cut the tumor out Dec 23rd, but did not have clean margins (not all the cancer was removed). In 1 month it grew back. A second surgery was done 7 days after that (Jan 27), the visible tumor had doubled in size during that week, and again the margins were not clean.

After the second surgery I started giving him the following daily:

------------- MORNING MEDS WITH FOOD -------------

5 mg Benezepril (for high blood pressure)

  (1) Immunity 2 mini pet dose capsule

  (1) Immunity 5 mini pet dose capsule

  (1) Immunity Up mini pet dose capsule

  Immunity is from http://www.newvita.com/

The website has adult products for $69 but they sell smaller 60ct capsules for cats/dogs for  $45 each.

------------- MORNING MEDS WITH FOOD -------------

------------- EVENING MEDS WITH FOOD -------------

   1/2 PetAlive C-Caps (Amazon $33.95 w/subscription, cancel anytime)

1/2 Thorne Research - Immugen - Canine and Feline (Amazon $48)

5 mg Benezepril (for high blood pressure)

1/4 25mg Atenolol (for BP and heart rate/murmur)

------------- EVENING MEDS WITH FOOD -------------

Doctors Best Artemisinin 100mg ($15 amazon)

From Feb 1 - Feb 20, I gave Artemisinin (theory is it kills cancer cells with free radical formation, see info links below) and C-Caps (immune booster, anti-tumor) daily. It's not advisable to give Immugen (or any supplement with Vitamin E) and Artemisinin at the same time because the antioxidant destroys the free radical mechanism of Artemisinin. Every type of cat food has a Vitamin E supplement so I tried to give it to him on an empty stomach (as bottle directs). It also says sensitive individuals may take with food, so if I try it again I may reduce the dosage further and give him some tuna/non-cat food with it.

It is suggested to pulse the treatment of Artemisinin because it cannot be absorbed consistently. I was doing 50mg daily for 5-6 days, then a week off. During the off periods I would give him C-Caps, Immugen, and Immunity as noted above. Two side effects of Art. are loss of appetite and upset stomach. He reduced or stopped eating during the Artemisinin treatment. I took him off of it for ~9 days and then tried 25mg daily, but had the same side effects. One of the articles said that cancer cells grow more at night, so it is best to dose in the evening (I did this). Another suggested the dose be split and given every 12 hours.

Ralphie has been taking a blood pressure pill twice a day with a pill popper for several years and swallows pills usually without problems. I coat the capsule with canned food gravy or some butter and pop it in his mouth. Ralphie is a large cat (11 lbs, was 15 lbs) and the c-cap capsules aren't too big. I dump out half of the c-cap and fill it with half the Immugen. The Immugen pills are quite large, so I bought the smallest empty capsules I could find (size 0 on eBay, they have a handy pill filler as well in eBay # 170710448664) and put the remaining halves of powder in those. I use the empty capsules to split up the 100mg artemisinin too. They have vegetarian and gelatin capsules. I got the vegetarian--does anyone know if one is better/safer than the other? Some people just mix the powder into wet food, but my cat is a picky eater.

(Since Feb 21) Every 3 days he gets ~1mg mirtazapine to increase his appetite (15 mg pill cut up into 12 pieces). The suggested dose is 1/4 or 1/2 of 15mg tablet every 3 days, but Ralphie and many other cats had a bad reaction--pacing, vocalizing, fast heart rate and breathing, restless, shaking. (see http://www.prescriptiondrug-info.com/Discuss/dangers-of-mirtazapine-174426.htm). Any dose over 1mg every 72 hours for Ralphie results in side effects.

I switched to the S-Wheat chemical free clumping litter for 2 months but switched to Tidy Cats clumping tonight because I suspect he is allergic to it.

I tried to get him to eat grain free food (low carb). His new heart medicine give him an upset stomach, he lost 3/4 pound, so for the past month I have been letting him eat Purina Cat Chow Complete because he likes it better and eats more. One of the members here clued me into cats liking fat (butter, cream, ice cream) so I'm going to start feeding him a little butter and cream to see if he'll put some weight on. I found grain free in natural food stores, specialty pet stores, and Petsmart. Shop around for the best price. I paid $24.99 for 6.6 lbs of Innova Evo Cat & Kitten food. The best price I found was $13.99 for 5 lbs of Natural Balance L.I.D. grain free dry food. Lots of canned varieties too.

It is now 7 and 1/2 weeks post surgery and there is no visible sign of the tumor (versus reappearance in 4 weeks and doubling in size by 5th week). I am cautiously optimistic. Starting this week I am only giving him 1/2 c-cap and 1/2 Immugen daily. The Chinese herbals are $135/month and I am hoping these two products alone will keep the cancer at bay. I will post updates if his symptoms or treatment changes.

The Astragalus and Mistletoe in the C-Caps can lower blood pressure. This wasn't a problem for my cat because his BP always runs a little high. I recommend consulting your vet and monitoring your pet's blood pressure during treatment. One member on Amazon posted that her cat's BP dropped to nearly zero after taking the recommended dose (1/2 capsule twice a day).

I have found Artemisinin to be very impressive for keeping tumor growth in check and for preventing spread of cancer in my animal patients. While I usually use it in combination with other herbals I have had some cases where I have used just this herbal and nothing else.

"I find [Artemisinin] works best against bone cancers, squamous cell carcinoma, fibrosarcoma and lymphoma."

Hi Brad
I live in New Zealand and have just been told the little tumour they took from under my beautiful 'baby's tongue is cancerous. I've just read this site and your comments which have given me some hope after the devasting news today.
Thank you. My cat is 18. He's had a great life, spoilt and well-loved but to think of being without him anytime soon is heartbreaking. We've been through such a lot together. I don't know if I can get all the the herbal medicines here - NZ is strict on some of them, but I will do my best for him to get him well.
Would love to know if you Ralphie is still alive and well. I hope so. Thanks heaps for your comments and your remedy tips.

Hello,

I wish the best for your baby. My first cat lived to be 3 months shy of his 19th birthday. He won the battle with thyroid cancer, but his kidneys ultimately failed. Ralphie just turned 17, but I lost him 2 months later on August 19th. He had high blood pressure, but other than that he was 100% healthy. I had hoped he would break the 20 year old mark. The herbals did help. My vet says some SCC patients only last a month, and most 90 days at best. I think the 1 year survival rate is something like 5%. The herbals kept the cancer in remission for about 5 months, but the cancer came back and nothing could stop it.

I hope you were able to get all of the medicines you need. At the very least try to get the c-caps and the Immugen. If you have any trouble let me know. I own a small business and I may have some more luck sending you non-descript package with smaller quantites of the medicine.

-------

My 17 y/o Ralphie lost the battle with this nasty disease August 19th, 2012.. He was diagnosed in December 2011, had surgery to debulk the tumor in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012, was in remission for over 5 months, but the cancer eventually returned, and this time the herbals only slowed the growth of the tumor. I kept him on pain medicine and fed him canned food, temptations cat treats, cream, whole milk, twinkies, cookies, potato chips (make sure they don't have onions or garlic)--basically anything fatty he was interested in. He was doing great, going outside, exploring, lost 1.5 pounds over 6 weeks, but otherwise a healthy, youthful-looking cat. Then one day the pain became so bad that even 4x dose of pain medicine Onsior, tramadol and aspirin wouldn't relieve his pain. So I made the difficult, but loving decision to end his suffering. It was the hardest decision I had to make, but I knew it was best for him. He was always spoiled, but he received extra treats, attention, love, petting, and basically anything he wanted for the past 2 months.

The arteminison didn't seem to reduce the size of the tumor. It did upset his stomach. I highly recommend 1/2 c-cap and 1/2 immugen two-three times a day (once a day at the bare minimum). I tried a new herbal called PetLife for the past 2 weeks. The company claims it has shrunk SCC tumors in animals. The only downside is that it takes several months to work--and it is very expensive ($135 - $150 for a 6 month bottle). If anyone wants some I will send it to you for free if you pay for postage.

R.I.P. Ralphie -- We will always love you!

my beloved cat's experience would have been made so so much less miserable IF the oncology practice had given any information on his SCC.  his regular vet did a biopsy (after I noticed bloody drool) and diagnosed him, and told me it was so far advanced surgery was not an option as it involved most of his tongue.  that's All the info the oncologist gave me at his $100 consultation.  they said his only option was palliative radiation, which wouldn't cure him, but might keep the tumour from progressing.

I would have taken him somewhere else, but I had been told time was critically short.

here are something I wish i'd known:

1) if you have time and don't feel comfortable with your initial consultation (the vet he saw gave me his card, then said I wont be here, I'm only here once a month so if you have questions...) go somewhere else.  I couldn't even begin to figure out what to do with so little info, and what I found online was conflicting or too academic to understand.

2) what you should know if your pet can no longer get enough food down his throat, you can have a feeding tube placed.  it costs about $1000 in Massachusetts.  your pet can still eat orally with the tube, which is important, but if they cant eat enough on their own the tube allows for proper nutrition.

other than the fact he could not eat enough, he was happy, otherwise healthy, and his pain was controlled by Buprenorphine and an oral steroid.  no, he would not have lived forever, but his last days would have been far less frustrating for both of us, and much more comfortable for him.

I couldn't understand what was happening, but as it turned out, he was trying to get the food down his throat but between his tongue being too stiff and what was left of the opening in his throat (facts the oncologist was privy to and would have been nice if they'd passed it on) he wasn't ingesting enough, leading to more weight loss.  this was still the case with syringe feeds.

3) the other thing that would've helped was bringing him to his regular vet every week or every other week.  they treat the patient.  they know your pet, you and your situation.  mine would've noticed the weight loss and said 'something can be done'. my oncologist treated only his cancer.

in the end, the radiation was having a positive effect, but he had to be hospitalized, then euthanized 3 days after his last treatment.  he would have lived a month, 2?  had I known of this option.  and all the stuff he went thru might've been worth it.

I would like to add some thing to this threat please. First, any supplement with fish oil should be avoided. Any PUFA is contributory to inflammation and cancer and weakens the immune system. I know it is touted as an anti-inflammatory and it does have that effect initially but just like prednisone, it lessens a symptom, but leaves the immune system compromised. I did add fish oil to my pets meals for 17 years and didn't have one case of cancer (aside from a small lump in the skin of one dog which was never biopsied and never spread since I think it may have been a cancer, I have to mention it). About 2 years after I began adding fish oilr religiously, I had cancer case after cancer case, and I am not talking little, treatable cancers (such as the suspicious lump mentioned above), I am talking pulmonary carcinoma, osteocarcinoma, and SCC. My research told me not to use fish or flax oil because it oxidizes so quickly but I thought I was safe to use one which had Vitamin E added as a preservative and came in a metal bottle so it wouldn't be broken down by light. I still believe this is the lesser evil of all the fish oils available for pets, but it is still evil, IMO. If you don't trust my opinion Ray Peat has many sources he can cite to back up the claim. Below is a blurb from his website and the link to the page with the information. Warning, Ray Peat, not unlike myself, is overly wordy.

Next I would like to say that Everyone with a non-operable cancer case should consider neoplasene and consult with a vet familiar with it's use. If your vet is not familiar, find one who is and pay for a consult then you can take what you learn and share this with your vet and ask them to give the treatment. OR- conider using a bloodroot product such as Amazon Salve or Amazon tonic by alpha omega labs. All bloodroot products will cause nausea used orally so consider topical administration when possible. This may mean anesthetizing a pet and applying the salve to the tongue if there is an SCC there. Such a procedure may need to be repeated a few times to get all of the cancer. The risk with these products is that they kiill or cause the body to kill cancerous tissue rapidly so if you are not sure where the cancer has spread to, you may risk creating a hole in a location where this will cause conmplications (such as in Glorea Bea's case). However, if you pet has only weeks to live, you really have nothing to lose. Just be prepared with Yunnan Paiyao, and pain meds and be sure you have a vet you can get to if things get worse quickly due to rapid necrosis or dislodging of a tumor.

"The original "essential fatty acids" were linoleic, linolenic, and arachidonic acids. Now that the toxic effects of those are coming to be recognized, new "essential fatty acids," the omega-3 fatty acids, including those with long chains, found in fish oils, are said to make babies more intelligent, to be necessary for good vision, and to prevent cancer, heart disease, obesity, arthritis, depression, epilepsy, psychosis, dementia, ulcers, eczema and dry skin.
With just a normal amount of vitamin E in the diet, cod liver oil is certain to be highly oxidized in the tissues of a mammal that eats a lot of it, and an experiment with dogs showed that it could increase their cancer mortality from the normal 5% to 100%. Although fish oils rapidly destroy vitamin E in the body, some of them, especially the liver oils, can provide useful vitamins, A and D. In studies comparing fish oil diets with standard diets, these nutrients, as well as any toxins besides fatty acids (Huang, et al., 1997; Miyazaki, et al., 1998) in either type of oil, should be taken into account, but they seldom are.

Despite the nutritional value of those vitamins, fish oils are generally much more immunosuppressive than the seed oils, and the early effects of fish oil on the "immune system" include the suppression of prostaglandin synthesis, because the more highly unsaturated long chain fats interfere with the conversion of linoleic acid into arachidonic acid and prostaglandins. The prostaglandins are so problematic that their suppression is helpful, whether the inhibition is caused by aspirin or vitamin E, or by fish oil."

Some of the important antiinflammatory effects of fish oil result from the oxidized oils, rather than the unchanged oils (Sethi, 2002; Chaudhary, et al., 2004). These oils are so unstable that they begin to spontaneously oxidize even before they reach the bloodstream...."
